The Cork Oak Canopy

The cork oak plantation where the measurements were carried out, is located 35 km SE of Lisbon, Portugal. The age of the cork oak trees is 100 years with a density of 76 trees per ha and an average canopy height of 10 m. The trees are used for commercial cork production.
The understorey is patchy and varied between dry grass and shrubs (Cystus crispus). It reaches 0.4 m in average.
It is not only important to have accurate and representative measurements of atmospheric properties but also detailed information on the characteristics of the canopy and their spatial variability. e.g. Leaf Area Index has been mapped in upwind directions of the tower. < BACK
