SOLMOS - Measurement of soil moisture layers using remote sensors (active microwave [scatterometers] and thermal infra-red)

National Fonds Project 20-40739.94, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation

Project coordinator: Eberhard Parlow

Outdoor (E-MAC, SIR-C, Priroda, HartX) experiments compare in-situ soil moisture distribution (spatial and profile) to remotely sensed backscattering coefficents and brightness values and evaluate potential application to meteorology. Satellite simulation and extention is performed using fully polarized multifrequency microwave scatterometric measurements of an irrigated soil cylinder in a controlled environment.
